The break-even is higher than you think

Pro Trader Strategies · The Breakout Spreads Playbook

Hi ~Contact.FirstName~,

Here is a real example from Lesson 1.1 of the Breakout Spreads Playbook.

AbbVie closed above its prior 50-day high on Oct 30, 2026, on above-average volume. In a snapshot from that close, the Dec 18 call with a $300 strike had an ask of $10.35. One contract controls 100 shares: $1,035. At expiration the stock would need to be above $310.35 just to break even, more than 5% above the price at the time.

That is not a recommendation. It is a study of the mechanics: a good chart does not automatically make a good option trade, and the whole premium is at risk.

The Starter Class shows the alternative, a vertical spread, and its trade-offs. $29, one time.

Hypothetical or simulated performance results have certain inherent limitations. Unlike an actual performance record, simulated results do not represent actual trading and may not be impacted by brokerage and other slippage fees. Also, since the trades have not actually been executed, the results may have under- or over-compensated for the impact, if any, of certain market factors, such as lack of liquidity. Simulated trading programs in general are also subject to the fact that they are designed with the benefit of hindsight. No representation is being made that any account will or is likely to achieve profits or losses similar to those shown.

CFTC RULE 4.41

HYPOTHETICAL OR SIMULATED PERFORMANCE RESULTS HAVE CERTAIN LIMITATIONS. UNLIKE AN ACTUAL PERFORMANCE RECORD, SIMULATED RESULTS DO NOT REPRESENT ACTUAL TRADING. ALSO, SINCE THE TRADES HAVE NOT BEEN EXECUTED, THE RESULTS MAY HAVE UNDER-OR-OVER COMPENSATED FOR THE IMPACT, IF ANY, OF CERTAIN MARKET FACTORS, SUCH AS LACK OF LIQUIDITY. SIMULATED TRADING PROGRAMS IN GENERAL ARE ALSO SUBJECT TO THE FACT THAT THEY ARE DESIGNED WITH THE BENEFIT OF HINDSIGHT. NO REPRESENTATION IS BEING MADE THAT ANY ACCOUNT WILL OR IS LIKELY TO ACHIEVE PROFIT OR LOSSES SIMILAR TO THOSE SHOWN.

No representation is being made that any account will or is likely to achieve profits or losses similar to those shown. In fact, there are frequently sharp differences between hypothetical performance results and the actual results subsequently achieved by any particular trading program.
